/ABOUT ME

Huancayo, Perú — 1984

Possessing a bold and contemporary approach to watercolor, Nicolás López presents a deeply personal semiotic language marked by experimentation and refined technical innovation.

His aesthetic vision operates on multiple levels—psychological, mythological, symbolic, and material. Under the pretext of landscape, he interprets a social reality that tells the everyday drama of a Peru with open veins, at times becoming universal in its resonance.

This intimate monologue never underestimates its viewer. On the contrary, through a profound Kafkaesque filigree, it reveals subtle fractures in human nature and its surroundings: the suburbs, abandonment, a tangle of roots and cables, the vastness of salt flats, a highway, the solitude of bridges.

Bare and fleeting spaces give way to reflections and shadows, which ultimately become the true signifiers of his work. Unconcerned with literary mystery as metaphor, López gives voice to the explicit silence found in these forgotten corners.

The figurative anchor is a minimal close-up—just enough to remind us that we are still standing, without knowing why, upon the surface of this infinite earth.
